Dear brothers and friends of Arcana,
I am please to report that we have received several petitions so far this year and have imitated and passed 4 new brothers to the degree of fellow-craft masons. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Brothers Thomas Young, Chad Anderson, Daniel Bartlett and Zachary Norling to Arcana Lodge. Their Master Mason degree is scheduled for Saturday, August 25, 2001 starting at 9:00 am. We will have coffee and rolls available at 8:00 for you early raisers, and there will be a lunch served at noon. I’m pleased to report that 3 of the new brothers are past master councilors of Lincoln Chapter DeMolay.
We also have several other petitions and will start a new set of degrees on Monday, August 20.
Please come to show your support for your Lodge by welcoming our new members.
Fraternally yours,
John Fosdick, Master
Brethren,
I’d like to start by apologizing for the delay in publishing this second issue for the year. It is apparent that I’ve bitten off more than I can chew, and must relinquish my duties as Trestleboard editor and publisher. I hope another brother can step forward to take over these responsibilities.
This has been a very challenging year for Arcana Lodge. As you can see by the attached mid-year financial statement, we have suffered losses due to dramatic utility and tax increases, and the loss of two of our first floor renters. We have since replaced one of those renters, and adjusted the monthly rent for all of our tenants to reflect our increased operating cost.
|
In the statement at the right I’ve listed our actual income and expenses for the fiscal year 2000 in the first column. The second column shows our position at this time last year, and the third column shows our present position for 2001. The forth column shows our revised annual budget. One of the key point to notice is that operating year to date loss is over $13,000. We have only been able to keep the doors open by cashing in one our CD’s in the amount of $10,000. Even looking at our revised budget (which assumes full rental at our new lease rates for the entire year) you can see that the cost of operating the building exceeds our building income by over $10,000 per annum. Another item not represented in the attached PL is the fact that there are still almost $4,000 in arrears dues for this year and last, which I might add we are still required to pay the Grand Lodge per capita of $24.00 per member per year. There has been quite a bit of discussion regarding raising our lodge dues, and selling the Lodge building. At our stated meeting on August 27, 2001 we will have the second reading and vote on a by-laws amendment to raise our annual dues. Please come to that meeting to let your voice be heard on these important subjects. One final note I’d like to add, we need to put together an Arcana Talent Pool. Our custodian WB Dave Sibben has asked for volunteers willing to perform light maintenance work at the building. He’s trying to put together a list of volunteers that can be called on when we need help. If you’re available to do a little carpentry, painting or to fix a leaky faucet, please call Dave at 763-785-1975. Fraternally yours,

NOTICE Stated Meeting, August 27, 2001 Arcana Lodge #187 AF & AM, for the second reading and final vote on proposed by-lay changes of Article V. Section 2, concerning the increase of Lodge Dues from ($37.00) thirty-seven dollars per year to ($60.00) sixty dollars per year. Brethren, an increase in dues is necessary because of
the continually raising cost of operating our Lodge building. |
