On Wednesday, January 29, 2003, Arcana Lodge, with W13 John Fosdick in the East, conferred the First Degree on Mr. Richard Hampton and Mr. Vahn Sergey Esaibegvan. They were duly initiated, obligated, instructed and lectured as Entered Apprentices. WB Fosdick taught them how to use the working tools and W13 Richard Hunt read the Charge. The First Section Questions and Answers were rehearsed by Brother Steven Northquest and WB Fosdick, with the Second and Third Section lectures being presented by W13 Gerald Chartrand.
On Monday, February 17, 2003, Arcana Lodge, with Brother Northquest in the East, examined Brothers Hampton and Esaibegvan as Entered Apprentices. After proving satisfactory proficiency in the First Degree, they were duly obligated, instructed, lectured and passed to the Degree of a Fellow Craft. They were taught how to use the Working Tools by WB Kevin Erickson. Brother John Studell from Minnehaha Lodge #165 did an outstanding job of conducting the two Brothers on their journey up the flight of winding stairs, afterwhich they were properly charged by WB Hunt. We welcome Brothers Hampton and Esaibegvan into our Masonic family and hope they will find both pleasure and enrichment as members of our Fraternity.
We have scheduled the Third (Master Mason) Degree for Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 4:00 PM. The first section of the Degree will be done prior to breaking for dinner, with the remaining portion taking place afterward. It always adds to the ambience of the Lodgeroom to have a goodly group of members sifting on the sidelines, and we can always use an extra hand or two during the second section of the work, so mark your calendars with that date.
Arcana will be starting another set of Degrees with the First (Entered Apprentice) Degree scheduled for Monday, March 31, at 7:00 PM. If you know of anyone who wishes to become a member of our Masonic Fraternity, you'll need to get those petitions in soon.
Hazel Park Lodge #312 has scheduled a visit to Arcana Lodge for Monday, February 24, and will join us for dinner prior to the stated meeting. We will be returning the visit to their Lodge on Tuesday, March 18. Our delegation will meet here at Arcana at 5:30 PM and carpool over to Hazel Park Lodge, located at 952 White Bear Avenue in Saint Paul. They also will be serving a dinner prior to their Lodge meeting.
Arcana Lodge's Annual Ides of March Spaghetti Dinner will be held on March 15, 2003 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. In addition to a bountiful Italian meal, the evening will allow ample time to visit with your friends and Brothers. This dinner helps us to raise the needed funds required to maintain our Lodge building. The Job's Daughters Bethel #19 will be holding their bake sale that same night so you can purchase some of their goodies for your dessert. Hope to see you all there on the 15th.
On Saturday, February 15, the Grand Lodge A.F.& A.M. of Minnesota held a banquet in honor of its 150th Anniversary at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis. There were more than 800 Brothers and guests in attendance at the event. My wife and I shared our table with the Worshipful Master of Taconite Lodge #342 (Silver Bay) and his lady, the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut and his wife, and the Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of California and his wife. Toasts were given to the past, present and future of the Grand Lodge of Minnesota, a sumptuous meal was served (Cornish game hen) and the evening ended with entertainment supplied by the Great Northern Union Chorus, a group of 45 male singers, who presented a program of barber shop, traditional and religious numbers. All in all, it was a wonderful evening, and a chance to meet Brother Masons from all across Minnesota and the entire nation.
Our Junior Deacon, Kenneth Miller had been hospitalized the week of February 9 with lung problems, which after surgery was found to be malignant. He is home now, at (763) 7881357. Give him a call and wish him well, and God willing, he will be able to join us at Lodge soon.
At the Arcana Coffee Club session of January 22, we were honored and privileged with a visit from Ms. Donnell Rank, who is the reining Mrs. Minneapolis 2003. She spoke to us on the subject of mentoring, which she has been doing for a number of years, both with youth and older persons. She explained the importance and effect that interaction with a mentor has on a younger person, who can gain insight and wisdom from a more mature individual. She left us with some very positive points to ponder. The Coffee Club is open to all of our Brothers, so come on down and bring a Brother or other friend to hear wisdom from the likes of Ed Theisen and Hank Maday, partake in some coffee and sweets, and hear the latest stories (jokes). Meets every other Wednesday.
