Arcana Lodge was privileged to host a visit from Most Worshipful Brother Neil Neddermeyer, Grand Master of Masons in Minnesota on Monday, May 19. He gave us his insights on the state of Masonry in the State of Minnesota, and his thoughts as to the future of the Craft. Also that evening, the Lodge presented Henry (Hank) Maday with the prestigious Hiram Award for his undaunted service to the Lodge. Congratulations, Brother Hank on a well deserved award. A prime-rib dinner was served that evening to the attendees (numbering about 30) as a fund raiser for the Minnesota Masonic Cancer Fund. The Lodge raised about $700.00 in contributions to the fund as a result of this event.
On Wednesday, May 21 Arcana conducted the Third Degree for Brothers Vahn Esaibegvan, Carl Lundin and Jeremy Dollens who were raised in due form to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason. WB Charles Berger was in the East, assisted by MWB Don Severson; other members of the team were Br. Steven Northquest in the West, WB John Fosdick in the South, WB Gerald Chartrand, WB Richard Hunt, WB David Sibben, WB Bernard Wiklund, Br. James Elwood and Br. Aleksandr lvanov. WB Berger presented the Working Tools, WB Hunt read the Charge, Br. Northquest and WB Fosdick rehearsed the First Lecture and WB Chartrand presented the Second and Third Lectures. On behalf of the Lodge, I would like to thank all the Brothers who participated in the Degree for a job well done. Also, we would like to thank Sandy Knoke who prepared the meals for both of these events.
On Saturday, June 21 an additional three Brothers were raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason at the One-Day-to-Masonry event at the Scottish Rite Temple in Minneapolis, which was sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Minnesota. Our 3 new Brothers are: Bradley Jones, Scott Pfankuch and Scott Smith. Arcana Lodge congratulates all six of our new Brothers and extends a sincere welcome to attend Lodge on a regular basis. The three Brothers raised at the One-Day event must sign the By-laws of Arcana Lodge in order to receive their dues cards, at a regular Lodge meeting, held on the Second and Fourth Mondays at 7:30 PM.
On a more somber note, Brother Kenneth Miller (Junior Deacon of the Lodge) succumbed to Lung Cancer on May 18. He was an extremely active member of the Lodge up to the time of his illness, and will be sorely missed. Arcana Lodge extends our sincere sympathies and condolences to his widow Sheryl and family on their loss. The Lodge will miss Ken as a friend, Brother and Officer. May the Grand Architect of the Universe accept Ken into his eternal care in that Celestial Lodge above and give comfort to his family and friends. A Masonic Funeral was conducted for Brother Ken by Arcana Lodge at Washburn McReavy (Columbia Heights) on Thursday, May 22 officiated by WB Bernie Wiklund.
The Shriners held their North American Convention in Minneapolis in early July. Among the events were two parades on July 8 and 9, which were very impressive, with numerous units varying from marching drillers, clowns and musical groups to mounted and Mobile Nobles. The assembly also agreed to extend the life of the local Shriners Hospital for at least another year. Hopefully, this facility will be spared in the future years also. A number of Arcana Brothers partook in these Shrine events.
An All-Temple Pancake Breakfast is in the planning stages as of the time of this writing, with a projected date of the middle of October. When final plans are put together, a flyer and tickets will be mailed to all members of the various units.
Arcana Lodge will be starting another set of degrees, beginning with the Entered Apprentice Degree on Monday, September 15 at 6:30 PM. We have at least two candidates at the present time, and are expecting more in the coming month. See you all in Lodge.
