News from the East

Happy New Year! We begin the New Year with a full line of officers. I want to thank all of you for accepting an office or an appointment.

As you read before in the Trestleboard we are making some changes at the Lodge. I believe we need to continue to make more improvements. I have worked out a plan for the New Year 1999 and hope that we can accomplish at least some of, it not the entire plan. Of course we will have to raise some funds to follow through with it. I feel that the brothers on the Fund Raising Committee, Brad Almen, Gary Sibben, Jim Young and Steve Northquist will do their best to help us accomplish it, but they will need your help. If you have some ideas for the Fund Raising Committee, please come to Lodge and get acquainted with the committee members and help out.

We will hold our meetings on the second and forth Mondays at 7:30 p.m., and on the forth Monday of each month we will have a dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The cost for dinner is generally $5.00 and sometimes even a little less. I am pleased to announce that our Junior Past Master WB Doug Roswold will be returning to the kitchen as the Arcana Lodge Chef. I am sure that you know of his great cooking, so come on down and enjoy some fellowship before the meeting. The menu for the January meeting will be Lasagna, and February will be roasted chicken.

Membership is very important. I'm calling on all of the brother Master Masons to help out on this matter. If you know someone who is eligible, please talk to them and tell them about Masonry. Encourage them to join our great Fraternity. If you are uncomfortable about talking to them please pass the name of the prospect on to the Master, Secretary, or the editor of the Trestleboard, we will be glad to talk to them.

Again I wish you the best in the New Year. Please come down and sit on the side lines, it will be nice to see you! If you have not been to a meeting for a long time and can't remember everything to enter, don't worry, we will do our best to help you out

Fraternally yours,
Dave Sibben, Master

Fruther Light in Masonry - A Real Mason

by Brother Frank F. Baer

My Brother, Masonry means more
Than just to wear a pin,
Or carrying a dues receipt
So the Lodge will let you in.

You wear an emblem on your coat,
And on your hand a ring.
But if your not sincere at heart
This doesn’t mean a thing.

It’s just and outward sign to show
The world that you belong
To this Fraternal Brotherhood
That teaches right from wrong.

What really counts lies buried deep
Within the human breast;
Masonic teaching brings it out
And puts it to the test.

If you can do outside the Lodge
The things you learn within,
Be just and upright to yourself
And to your fellow men;

Console a Brother when he’s sick,
Or help him when in need
Without a thought of a reward
For any act or deed.

Conduct yourself in such in such a way
The world without can see
None but the best can meet the test
Laid down by Masonry.

Respect and live up to your trust
And do the best you can;
Then you can tell the world you are
A Mason and a Man!

Arcana Lodge Outstanding Mason of the Month

Charles Berger

Arcana Lodge is proud to acknowledge the outstanding Mason of the month for January, Chuck Berger. Chuck was a DeMolay in Lincoln Chapter, serving as Master Councilor in 1955 and designated as a Chevalier in 1957, the same year he became a Mason in Arcana Lodge. During the next decade he served on the Advisory Council of Lincoln Chapter, performed the Flower Talk at DeMolay Functions, and teamed with his father, Karl, to give the first section lecture for Masonic degrees. In 1985 he traveled the York Rite and is a Member of Columbian Chapter and Zion Commandery.
